Jeb Loy Nichols performs his latest release June is short, July is long at Kantine am Berghain.

The American Songwriter, who creates his very own brand of smoky retro-soul since two decades, has released his eleventh album together with The Westwood All-Stars, his tour band, on Compass Records in association with Proper Records. A cross-genre album that documents his journey from being born and raised in the American Midwest through to his current life in the rolling hills of rural Wales. "It’s all roots music. Three chords and a good story. Don’t overthink it. Just get in the groove and let it happen."

June is short, July is long could sit alongside classics from Ry Cooder or Van Morrison, with a real mix of joy and pain. According to Nichols there is less to go wrong, as long as you keep it simple: "You take a little country, some soul, some old friends and few good stories, and what can go wrong? (...) I wanted to make the kind of record I grew up with, that meeting place of folk, soul and country."
