Australian-born, Paris-based Sam Quealy has had an amazing career – from burlesque dancer to Comme des Garçons collaborator, performance artist and singer. Both catchy as well as rooted in the queer underground, her techno-pop songs quote Italo sounds and 80s pop; for her sleek videos, she pulls from camp culture and collaborates with video artists such as Aymeric Bergada Du Cadet. The sound of Das Beat is a mixture of new wave, indie and techno. The Berlin duo consisting of Eddie Rabenberger (vocals) and DJ Kerby (music) released their debut album Frau Fatal in March and tonight will be playing live with Sam Quealy at the Light Metal Party on the Berghain floor. The night's DJs will be Flexible Heart from Dresden's feminist DJ collective Prozecco/Consequences as well as US hyperpop duo Frost Children. Taking over Panorama Bar will be Cormac's label Polari. Mommy's boy and daddy's girl Bestley regularly plays her eclectic disco, house and Balearic sets at Horse Meat Disco in London, and her single “Disco Drama”, released on Polari in October, positions her as an equal successor to Amanda Lear and Róisín Murphy.
